The Grass is Greener Over There!

Where is My Green Lawn?

The grass must be greener somewhere because I wonder if there is greener grass here.  The campaign rhetoric, bad foreign policy,  high  oil prices, a bad economy and not to mention all those personal issues cover the green grass like a tarp during a rain delay.

  1. The green stops in Washington, DC … in more ways than one! ha

I was just thinking today how GREEN my lawn looked. We’ve had a ton of rain over the past couple of weeks, and everything is green and growing.

I had major work done on my house about a month ago, that involved tearing up my entire front yard, and I just noticed a bit of green poking through all the straw the workmen left behind. What I don’t know is do I let the straw decompose, or rake it up at some point? Any thoughts?

  2. Does the straw look bad? If it does I would rake it up and use it somewhere where mulch is needed. The circle of life (decomposed) is a good thing.

  3. It actually still looks like straw. Sort of reminds me of that documentary about McDonalds, where the french fries looks exactly the same after months and months … ha

We had another big rain this weekend, so I’ll want to reevaluate the stiuation soon, mostly to see if the gound is any more level. Right now it kind of looks like Old MacDonald’s Farm around here!

  4. Grren lawns — It’s an optical illusion — a trick of the light.

While we stand amid our personal weedpatches, trying not to envy the green lushness appearing in every other yard, we aren’t aware that all lawns look greener … from a distance. It is only when we’re standing at that other place that we get close enough to see *their* weeds … and the bare patches, browning blades, and fire-ant hills.

Sure there are some real “lush lawns” out there. But they are far fewer than you think, and most are nowhere near any of us. ;-)

Besides … weeds need love, too.
